FED:Ministerial row over Thomson phone calls

Labor has gone on the attack over revelations of a series of phone calls about embattled
government MP CRAIG THOMSON.

Federal frontbencher CRAIG EMERSON says it's curious that shadow attorney-general GEORGE
BRANDIS put in a call to NSW Police Minister MIKE GALLACHER over the issue.

He says Senator BRANDIS should have known the sensitivities of the matter, given that
NSW Premier BARRY O'FARRELL had last weekend called for Mr THOMSON'S sacking.

After he spoke to Senator BRANDIS, Mr GALLACHER then called police commissioner ANDREW
SCIPIONE, but a spokesman for Mr GALLACHER today denied any wrongdoing in the calls, saying
the issue of Mr THOMSON was mentioned only in passing.

The federal Labor MP is embroiled in allegations over his alleged use of a union credit
card, including paying for prostitutes, in his former role as secretary of the Health
Services Union.
