QLD:Pool laws relaxed to help flood victims
Queensland is delaying the enforcement of new pool safety laws for six months .. with
fears they may further constricted the rental market.
Premier ANNA BLIGH says the delay is a practicality in the aftermath of the floods
and Cyclone Yasi .. as reconstruction and rebuilding come first.
Ms BLIGH says people with extensive damage to their homes need to be rehoused .. and
the state can't afford rental properties to remain vacant while owners wait for a pool
safety certificate.
The laws came into effect in December .. and require mandatory safety inspections while
giving safety inspectors greater powers of entry to undertake checks.
Ms BLIGH says Queensland's statutory land valuations .. due to be issued next month
.. will also be delayed for three months until the effects of the disasters can be fully
assessed.
