Group accuses Israel of war crimes: Amnesty International criticizes conflict

JERUSALEM - Israel committed war crimes, including unlawfulkillings, during a military offensive in the West Bank cities ofJenin and Nablus earlier this year, the human rights group AmnestyInternational said today.

The Israeli military said the offensive was launched in self-defense, in response to Palestinian terror attacks on Israelicivilians.

In its report, Amnesty said there is "clear evidence that some ofthe act committed by the Israel Defense Forces during OperationDefense Shield were war crimes."
