The Nasdaq's plunge hasn't eliminated people like Steve Murch.
Founder and CEO of holiday site Vacationspot.com, Murch was a top database marketer at Microsoft Corp. before leaving to start his company in 1997. He also was Microsoft's 7,000th employee, which left him with stock options that made him very rich.
Murch is an "at-will" marketer -- free from the need for a paycheck, able to leave the company at any time.
"Having some money in the bank through options gave Greg [Vacationspot.com co-founder and another former-Microsoft marketer, Greg Slyngstad] and me a lot of flexibility," Murch said. `'I never felt like the downside risk was high." …
